The story I will write for November Novel Month is based on a Dungeons and Dragons story I made up for me and my friends in an attempt to recreate one of my favorite childhood shows. In 1996, Mighty Ducks: The Animated Series debuted on Disney; the twenty-six episodes that were made had a lasting impression on me. For the unfamiliar: the Mighty Ducks are humanoid ducks that play in the NHL and fight aliens. Think Space Jam but hockey, with some Dark Wing Duck, in that late 90s animation style. You may understand my excitement.
The story takes place in WallowOp- a place eerily similar to middle America in the year 2000; Blackberries, Nokias, Napster lawsuits and the first season of Survivor; a place where magic exists but hides from the general public in dark caverns and “abandoned” watch towers in the remote mountains.
While the world around them erupts into a fantasy land of magic and monsters, our bumbling college heroes find themselves engaged in a battle over Ultimate Frisbee, of all things. This is a story about a team and the ridiculous obstacles they never thought they’d have to face. They attempt to locate a missing team, understand why the world’s gone haywire, win their division, pass their classes, and have fun doing it.
