Projects Roundup & Status Report, Mr. Squirdward

What’s that smell? I’ve got a few things cooking in the oven, and a project or two simmering on the stove. Even my backburners got some action!

The Saga de Hotonoma
Still my inaugural book, I’ve let this fall to neglect. I have a meager amount of new material left to write, and probably a quick read-through before this becomes available. I am planning to self-publish through the Amazon bookstore. The “Olde Testament,” which I created in High School, is available as a PDF here: https://therealzsmith.com/2022/08/20/saga-de-hotonoma-draft-1/
Be warned, the best stuff is what I started writing last year, the “New Testament,” which aims to find some form of closure for the various loops I left open in the original.

Spirit Foul
My Novel November challenge about a college Ultimate team is currently a rough draft of 85,000 words. I’ve begun drafting it and plan to get it to Beta readers soon. Very excited, I think I will try to get this one professionally published.

Resistance
I’ll start pumping out this recently announced project on Friday! I am excited to publish-as-I-write. This will be a steady side project, something I can work on each week that I won’t take too seriously. Each chapter will stand on its own; a five-to-ten-minute read for your Friday mornings. A little worried about writing myself into a corner, but who the hell cares. I’ll figure it out.

I’ve been on the receiving end of authors taking their damn time (GRRM, Rothfuss). I read the last few Harry Potters as they came out (JK did a good job IMO, but one childhood year is like seven years to an adult) and I was SHOCKED to find out Paolini’s Inheritance Cycle was in fact NOT a trilogy: I realized with 80 pages left in the third book that there were WAY too many loops not being closed. Waiting any amount of time for closure was a kick in the nads when I thought I had it in my hands already. Sanderson is the model for regularly shoving great books out of the door, I want to be like that. In the case of books, a flawed product is superior to no product. Hopefully, Resistance will help me get used to publishing a little uncomfortable.

Now, someone bookmark this to send to me when in five or ten years I’m sitting on a cult classic people are clamoring for. It’s nice to dream…
